Finally we took off. Yesterday evening we were at heathrows most forgotten terminal – nr. 4 – beside usbekistan airways it is also used by south china air, astana air and some other carriers most people have never heard of. The plane was old, still showing the signs and inscriptions of the former brasilian owner. The crew was wearing uniforms that still looked like those of aeroflot. The crowd on the plane seamed to be allready a promise for what there is awaiting us – it was people from all over central to eastern asia.
Tonight we want to have made it to nukus, a city in the very west of uzbekistan, the capital of karakalpakstan, renowned only for the eco-catastrophy of the aral sea, the surrounding dessert, its sowjet city grid and a museum of modern art, that consists allegedly of 90.000 works.
